Get ready for “Switch” to “Maestro”

A reminder from WorldPay: make sure you make all the changes necessary to your web site.

4th June 2007

Over the past couple of years, Switch has been migrating to Maestro, MasterCard's global debit brand. Switch has largely disappeared from most shop windows and this change now needs to be made online. MasterCard require all internet merchants to remove the Switch logo from their websites by 30th June 2007.

In addition, in order to accept Maestro, MasterCard require that that you display the Maestro logo and that your payment service supports the cardholder authentication process MasterCard SecureCode (also known as '3D Secure'). SecureCode gives your customers state-of-the-art protection against fraud when shopping online using a Maestro card: the benefits are described on MasterCard's website. SecureCode is already in place for MasterCard's credit cards for which it is currently optional - it will become mandatory for Maestro cards used online and will be in place by 30th June 2007.

The following tells you what you have to do.

  • Your Websites and Payment Pages: Remove the Switch logo, if you use it, on all your website pages. Add the Maestro logo which can be downloaded from MasterCard's website at: www.mastercardbrandcenter.com
  • WorldPay Payment Pages: WorldPay plan to remove the Switch and add the Maestro logo on the WorldPay payment page in June 2007 - we will contact you beforehand to advise the exact date.
  • MasterCard SecureCode Support: WorldPay will upgrade its payment processing service to support MasterCard SecureCode for Maestro cards. We are preparing this support and expect to deliver it in the 3rd quarter of this year - more details will be provided beforehand. In the meantime, as a WorldPay customer, you will be able to accept Maestro payments.
  • Solo: The Solo brand will continue as a brand in its own right and although Solo transactions can use MasterCard SecureCode, MasterCard have not made this mandatory. We will also be introducing support for this at a later date.

For information about MasterCard SecureCode please see the MasterCard website and specifically as it relates to Maestro, their UK site. You could also visit WorldPay’s website or get in touch with them to ensure you keep updated.

The site does exactly what we wanted it to; we have had many favourable comments from our customers - at the end of the day, it is their views which really count and help to build a business.
