Solution

RICS Books is the commercial publishing and bookselling arm of the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors. Their original e-commerce site was proving very slow, both to use and to keep up to date. RICS Books wanted a new system that had the ability to interface with their internal MS SQL Server 7 database and extract their entire catalogue daily, keeping their site permanently up to date and improving service and satisfaction for their customers.

Members of RICS and students can qualify for discounts on selected products. The internal RICS database provides data on the different pricing offered to each group for each product. The system automatically calculates available discounts as information is entered during the checkout process.

Customers can return to the site and re-use their original delivery and credit card information, and can also find information on their previous orders via the web-based order tracking system. RICS staff can alter the status of each order as it passes through their internal processes, and can add comments either viewable or hidden from the customer.

comments

The site does exactly what we wanted it to; we have had many favourable comments from our customers - at the end of the day, it is their views which really count and help to build a business.
