My Metro App - Autumn Update

Back in January 2019, Xibis launched the My Metro app which was developed for the West Midlands Metro (WMM) tram network, operated by Midland Metro Limited. The mobile apps were developed for the iOS and Android platforms. The principle key app feature allows WMM customers to quickly and easily purchase digital tickets and season passes for the tram network. Additionally, customers are able to register an account, plan journeys, check for service updates, and receive reminders of expiring passes.

Over the summer period, the Xibis team have been busy developing updates to the My Metro app and to prepare for the recent releases of Android 10 and iOS 13.

A number of updates have been completed and these are:

  • New app look and feel – The Xibis team revisited the design and usability of the app to implement a fresh new look with enhanced usability to create a light, simple and focussed experience for all of WMM customers and service delivery teams.
  • Dark Theme – As part of the scheduled operating system releases this year, this was a primary feature for both Apple and Android.  One of the benefits of such a feature for health and well-being reasons is an attempt to reduce eye strain when using a phone in the dark (dark theme is explained in more detail in one of our previous blog posts).  For such a prime feature, it is surprising to see that even that likes of WhatsApp and Facebook have not updated their Apps to support dark mode as of yet
  • Apple and Google Pay – The ultimate payment convenience on the go.  Proving an additional payment option for customers above and over the current methods of PayPal and Debit/Credit Cards.  
  • Fraud Prevention - the implementation of 3DS2 (3D Secure 2) a new standard means a secure frictionless user experience for check out utilising the most up-to-date means of authentication.

The new iOS version of the My Metro app can be downloaded from the App Store. The Android version can be downloaded from the Play Store with the new look version to follow shortly pending approval of Google Pay.
